Was playing CounterStrike: Source tonight and one of the other players was named 'VoteBadnarik'. I had a couple kind words for the guy, so another guy pipes up that he's a card carrying Libertarian Party member. So yeah, why do I keep getting the impression that there are a lot more libertarians out there than we are led to believe? And is the media blackout so effective that without it the rate of libertarians might even be as great or better than that of the robot Right and Left?

I was leaning towards not voting at all since it is an absurd concept. But if this stuff is really spreading I think I want to help get the word out. I would also get a chance to vote NO for every new statist scheme they are trying to cook up.

Here in Cincinnati for work. Should have stayed home in the hurricane. Would have had 7 days off and the place I would have stayed had cable and power the whole time so far. Anyway, thought I'd post something I found about the protests of the RNC. I don't really see the point in protesting them, but if this person's post is truthful, then it's another shining example of the joys of our coercive monopoly on force that we call the police. No accountability, no justice. Apparently the city may have been fined for their treatment of these people, This is merely a punishment the taxpayers will bear, not the actual people responsible.

So this is something I was going to write about anyway. No matter how many rights the government decides to grant you, they can still violate them all they want, and what can you do? If you have to undergo cruel and unusual punishment what happens? They say they are sorry later and let you go? You aren't compensated for it and you can't seek restitution as you would be able to do if the police service wasn't 'pubic'. so basically whatever rights you have are meaningless.

As sick as this makes me, I will probably be voting for someone for Sheriff tomorrow here in Martin County since it is a friend of a co-worker. I was told by someone today that cliche' that if you don't vote, you can't complain. Right, as if the two retards they put up for you to choose really represents what you want. But anyway, if voting was really so democratic and indicated your preferences, why isn't there an option to have NO president, senator, etc. How are you supposed to vote if you think nobody should have power over your life and liberty? The only thing you can do is not vote, and then you are back to not being able to complain because you could have changed it!

I know it's pointless to talk about since it all relies on Doublethink like everything else in politics, but I still have to rant.

I had a great time at the Porcupine Freedom Festival in New Hampshire this past week. It was nice to meet some of the people from LJ: polyanarch, gentlemaitresse, amanda42, and ghostcow, and those that weren't on my friends before: crasch, kitnish, and ladypantherrr.

Highlights:

Thurs:
Fly into Boston, Delta loses luggage. Verrin, who flew in earlier, rents a Blazer and drives us the 3 and a half hours to Lancaster New Hampshire. It's a really nice area. The Rogers Campground overlooks some nice mountainous scenery. Lots of people standing around campfires, so I meet many of them. Unfortunately start getting a migraine and of course my medication is in my luggage.

Fri:
Wake up early for Mt Liberty hike. It's cold and raining outside and i'm stuck in my shorts and tshirt from the flight. Migraine somehow faded into dull throb after sleeping, and is completely obliterated under the torture of climbing the mountain :)

The hike was ok at first, but got increasingly steep and I was unable to keep up with the rest of the group. Must by my Florida legs? There are no hills here at all. Luckily there was a guy that was out of shape cardiovascularly, so we kind of took our time. Didn't think I was going to make it and came very close to turning back several times. But with the help of the other out of shape dude we finally made it the 3 miles. The view on the summit was pretty much breathtaking and probably worth the torture of the climb and descent. It took from 9 am to 3:15 pm to do the hike.

Friday night was also the NHLA dinner, to which I didn't attend. Just went to dinner and hung out.

Sat:
Most of the day there were speakers that were relevent to those moving there. I particularly enjoyed the one from the Coalition of NH Taxpayers. The guy was really intelligent and they knew what was going on in each minicipality when it came to new taxation programs and were on top of everything local politicians tried to pull. I would probably get involved in that if i was there. There were also talks on hemp,home schooling, and guns, etc

That night there was a kind of skimpy dinner given by FSP for $6.50. After that there was a DJ and dancing that few people attended. I ended up at a party given by gentlemaitresse and attended by several of the polyamorists (such as polyanarch) that was... interesting to say the least :)

Sun:
There was a Christian service, which prompted an atheist service to be formed in response. I attended the Seekers meeting, basically an organization that seeks the truth by avoiding dogma but are open to all possibilites from all religions. This was also the place were pagans attended. Some really cool discussions here.

Then, the drive back to the airport and flight home. All in all, the people were great and it seemed like a nice trip. I'm glad I went.

Ok my daily commute takes me up and down a stretch of US1 that leads between the county I live and the county I work. It is quite empty as it passes through a large state park and therefore no homes or businesses. The speed limit is 55 mph, but NOBODY goes that slow, as there is nothing around and visibility is excellent. I'd say average speed is 70+ mph, and I usually go 80+. They tend to radar the desolate area late at night. I got a ticket at like 11 pm on a Sunday, and just the other day saw one radar me at 1:30 am. So, I decided to find out how they go about setting these limits because as I have read you can contest the law itself in court (this is doubtful, I know).

So I call up Martin county traffic engineering division. They have no idea how speed limit is set and US1 is state run. She gives me the number to the state of Florida highway dept's local office. I ask how they set the speed limits, he kind of mumbles something about state guidelines. I ask if I can get information on what the guidelines are. He says it is just 55 mph in a rural area, in every rural area. So I clarify that there were no tests or surveys run on this highway to determine what the speed limit would be. He says no, but that he can tell me when the speed limit was set. I say yes, and he says that there is no record of when the speed limit was set, meaning it was done when the road was built. So when was US1 built? Over 50 years ago I'd imagine. Apparently the cars of today are supposed to handle high speeds the exact same as the cars of 50 years ago? I think not. These bastards don't have a leg to stand on.

Of course this isn't going to mean jack. I'm going before a magistrate who probably knows nothing about the law and doesn't care. All he knows is I broke the 'rules' and should pay. It won't matter that there is no evidence that I ever committed a crime, or that it isn't even a crime to begin with!

I need to post more so you guys can duke it out

Time to enjoy my days off. Hopefully I'll actually get something done this time, like writing a letter for continuance of my court case and get my place cleaned up. I'm sure there are a million other things I should do but I can't think of them.

Forgot to mentioned I finished the Machinery of Freedom a while ago. It wasn't bad, but Friedman's arguments for utilitarianism weren't very convincing to me. I was hoping he'd illustrate the practicality of an anarchist society more, which he did to an extent, but not too above and beyond what I had heard before. His writing left something to be desired also. What can I say, he's no Rothbard.

Well I booked my ticket. I'll be flying up June 24 for the Porcupine Freedom Festival in New Hampshire. I fly into Boston but it looks like it's not ultimately that far from where I'm going. Will be cool to meet some of the people on here and the other members of the Free State Project. Hopefully I'll get to talk to Doug Stanhope too.

ghostcow actually left for the festival today. He's walking the 1000 miles and apparently expects it to take a month. Talk about dedication!

Maybe I should just go up there now. I already have to drive two towns away to get fast food. Things couldn't get much more backwards than that. And not having friends there isn't exactly a problem either since I have none here! Can't lose.

That was Morpheus in the Matrix movie. It has been true for me though, and that feeling has led me to the knowledge I have today. That we are born free, but everywhere we are in chains. After becoming an anarchist the parallels between our lives and the Matrix have become clear as day. Today polyanarch posted an article that went into more detail about it. The Blue Pill People.

So what do you do? Take the blue pill? Go on pretending that we aren't slaves fooled by some twisted illusion? Ignorance is bliss after all. Or you could take the red pill in which case your life will never be the same. Then join the ranks of those like me and the characters in the Matrix, who believe freedom should be won at any cost.

By the way, that movie was ruined by its sequels.

Sometimes I get frustrated when I go to my friends list and there is nothing new. But I don't update often myself so I don't have a leg to stand on.

Sucks to spend all day programming and all night sitting on my ass. I'd rather sit on yours.

Spent most of the night watching Tivo so far. Without that my brains would be splattered over my living room by now. Well maybe not but things would suck more.

Tru Calling, while having a cheesy premise, is actually turning out to be a pretty good show. I just now watched all the episodes from april.

I wanted to see how to upload a pic onto here, but photobucket fucked me in the ass. Will have to figure out more options.

Got a quote from another insurance agent (can't remember name of the company). He got my info then called me back with the numbers. He sounded kind of somber like there was no way I'd go with this high of a price. Well it ends up being one HALF of what I pay now! That's right, 300 bucks a month down to 150. I couldn't believe it. He wanted to know how that compares to State Farm. I'm like yeah, that's a little better :)

Maybe I can hang on to this car for another year.

Me: It's the rule that I have to have insurance with this lease right?

Lady: Yeah...

Me: And if I don't have coverage, you 'give' me insurance at a high cost?

Lady: Yes...

Me: So what happens if I get my license revoked? I can't legally be insured.

Lady: I umm..... actually I have no idea! let me go check
(a minute later)

Lady: Well, we come take back the car.

Me: Really? Any fees involved?

Lady: Nope, but it could affect your credit report, it's considered a voluntary repossesion.

Soooo... either I spend another year paying over 600 bucks a month, spend the money to replace tires, body work, etc, or they can just come take it for free. Pretty sweet deal. Except for the fact that I won't have a license. That being the biggest problem. Will have to think on this one
